Dignitary Gift

For dignitary/VIP visits or high-profile program participants/honorees, it is appropriate that a gift be presented on behalf of the University in appreciation or to promote goodwill. It is the responsibility of the hosting department to purchase a gift. This visit would most likely coincide with an official university event, a school/department event or a high-level meeting where the gift could be presented by the Chancellor, Provost, Vice Provost, Dean or appropriate designate.

Prior to choosing a gift, contact Special Events and Protocol (SEP) to research the country’s cultural gift-giving protocol to determine if your gift selection is appropriate.  If the Chancellor extends the invitation, an appropriate gift will be determined.

Suggested gift items might include:

  • UCLA gift basket with a sweatshirt, mug, baseball cap, key chain, and postcards*
  • UCLA pen/pencil set, clock or gift set*

*The asterisked items are available for purchase at The UCLA Store.

For more information, refer to the Business and Finance Bulletin G-42, Gifts Presented to Non-Employees on Behalf of the University. Gifts should not exceed $250 per individual per university policy.  Additionally, please note that some officials have differing gift acceptance limitations.
